The "Lytton" is docked at Sproat's Landing, probably in 1890 during the booming days of railway construction. Note the boxcar just above the gang-plank. The man behind the white dog is probably standing on the track. Of special interest is the building clearly visible on the Brilliant bench, to the right of the hull. This was most likely George Gilpin's hotel which catered to the early travelers who either came along the river, or followed the Colville trail and crossed it via McCleary's ferry which ran from a point at the very right hand edge of the photo.
